Indiana employers may not assist with absentee ballots; state posts in-person early-voting window and Nov. 3, 2026 application deadlines
Indiana’s official elections guidance says counties must offer in-person absentee (early) voting for 28 days before the Nov. 3, 2026 general election and that ABS-Mail applications must be received by 11:59 PM local time 12 days before the election (Oct. 22, 2026). The guidance also bars an employer or union representative from assisting a voter in completing an absentee-by-mail ballot.

The Indiana Election Division page says state law requires counties to make in-person absentee voting available for 28 days before the election, ending at noon the day before the election, and to offer in-person absentee voting on the two Saturdays immediately before the election. For the Nov. 3, 2026 general election that window therefore begins 28 days before the election and ends the day before the election; county-specific dates, times and locations are posted at indianavoters.in.gov.
The guidance summarizes absentee-by-mail rules: ABS-Mail applications must be in officials’ possession not later than 11:59 PM local time 12 days before the election (Oct. 22, 2026); ballots must be received by the county election board not later than 6:00 PM local time on Election Day (Nov. 3, 2026). It reiterates that an employer or union representative may not assist a voter in completing an absentee-by-mail ballot, and notes ID requirements for absentee applications effective July 1, 2023.
