BusinessIndy publishes research-based reporting and analysis for Indianapolis and Central Indiana.

Central Indiana first

BusinessIndy prioritizes consequential developments involving recognizable companies, communities, people and costs in Indianapolis and Central Indiana. Significant stories elsewhere in Indiana may also qualify. A national development must have a specific, source-supported Indiana consequence or be an exceptional event with clear value for Indiana readers. We do not invent a local angle.

News Briefs and Staff Reports

A News Brief is a concise, original and attributed account supported by a readable source. One authoritative firsthand source can establish a straightforward announcement. Staff Reports use independently checked research, public records, filings, data or multiple sources to add useful context and explanation. Both formats preserve the origin of exclusive reporting and quotations.

Verification before publication

BusinessIndy checks the event identity, source date, essential facts, geographic relevance and existing coverage before publication. Company plans, forecasts and claims remain attributed as such. Disputed, sensitive, legal or materially uncertain claims require stronger evidence and editorial review. If the core facts or relevance cannot be established, the item is held rather than padded with unsupported context.

Original research and writing

We develop stories from checked research notes, using company filings, public records, official data and other verified evidence. News coverage can provide leads for further research. We organize the article around what readers need to understand and contribute supported comparisons, records synthesis, calculations or explanatory analysis. Different wording, a new headline or a longer summary alone does not establish an original full article. When the evidence supports only a short update, we preserve an appropriately attributed brief.

Sources and attribution

We seek information as close to its origin as possible, including public records, government notices, company newsrooms, filings and direct announcements. Credible local reporting may supply leads and attributed facts. Quotations, allegations, forecasts, opinions and company-reported claims retain attribution where they appear. We do not present another publication’s exclusive interviews or observations as our own reporting.

Company announcements

Company announcements are a primary focus of BusinessIndy. We prioritize timely releases, public records and filings with meaningful Central Indiana business news, then publish concise attributed accounts of what the issuer reports. Other news media may also supply leads. Announced plans, forecasts and promotional claims retain attribution and are not described as independently established outcomes. Duplicate controls remain in force, and the story links to the available source.

Automation and review

AI may assist with source discovery, drafting and organization. The publisher applies source, date, geographic-scope, originality, duplication and sensitive-content checks before release. Automated output may be held for editorial review. BusinessIndy uses the institutional byline “BusinessIndy News Desk” and does not invent interviews, quotations, eyewitness accounts, reporters or professional credentials.

News and explanation together

New briefs lead with the verified development and keep source-dependent claims attributed. A major story may first appear as a short supported brief and later be expanded at the same URL when additional evidence is available. Staff Reports may include checked definitions, comparisons, records synthesis or calculations. Sparse leads remain concise rather than being padded to meet a word or story quota.

Homepage selection

The homepage presents up to five useful local features and a separate Breaking News section for significant verified developments. Five is a target, not a quota; national filler does not fill empty positions. All viable Top Stories may occupy the main homepage feature, regardless of source or publication date. The main feature rotates among these stories every 15 minutes, including feature selections. Original publication dates remain visible. Only a separately owner-approved pin pauses rotation. Editorial feature selections prioritize a story in the rotation pool for their stated window. Sports, restaurant and political stories are excluded from the homepage feature. Neutral economic-policy coverage may qualify when its effects are factual and source-supported.

Images and representation

AI-generated artwork is labeled as an illustration and is not a photograph of the reported event. Representative scenes should include women alone, women together and mixed groups, with women shown prominently in leadership and technical roles. Named subjects and real events retain their factual identities. Licensed photographs receive attribution.

Publication dates and updates

Stories show BusinessIndy publication dates and link to the original reporting. A meaningful revision may carry an updated date. Routine automated checks do not make an old story new. Historical archives provide background, never evidence of current conditions.

Corrections and conversation

Report a correction with the article link and supporting evidence. Material corrections should be explained on the affected story. Published stories accept moderated reader comments unless an editor has closed the discussion.
