IDEM is taking public comments through Nov. 21 on a proposed change to the air permit for Cummins’ Columbus Engine Plant in Bartholomew County. The company applied to increase the engine capacity allowed in Test Cell 10 from 500 to 900 horsepower for diesel, biodiesel and JP-8 fueled engines, and to change the coolant type and use rate in a machining operation. IDEM’s notice says the draft adds no equipment that would emit air pollutants. These are proposed permit changes, not a final approval or a plant expansion announcement. After the comment period, IDEM will issue a decision that may differ from the draft.
