According to Beacon Health System, Lee and Jane Herschberger’s son Aleks was born prematurely and spent his first month in the NICU before coming home on Christmas Eve 2023. After switching providers, the family established care with Nancy Pudlo, MD, at Beacon Medical Group Main Street Pediatrics in Granger, using Beacon’s online scheduling. Dr. Pudlo referred Aleks to First Steps for developmental assessment, and the family reports that timely access, same-day visits and compassionate care helped Aleks make strong progress.
Beacon Health System announced that Beacon Children’s Hospital, supported by a $3,000 grant from The Toy Foundation, has introduced a specialized sensory-support cart to improve care for neurodivergent pediatric patients. The cart includes noise-reducing headphones, weighted lap mats, sensory and fidget tools, and calming activities. A local volunteer created custom 3D-printed play and mobility items, and grant funding also expanded staff education through partnerships including the Logan Center. The cart rolled out across the hospital in fall 2026.
