Purdue expands campus recreation with new Pickett‑Chaney pickleball and tennis complex in West Lafayette
Purdue University opened the Pickett‑Chaney Pickleball and Tennis Complex, adding 18 resurfaced, individually fenced pickleball courts (including three championship‑sized) plus two fenced tennis courts and an outdoor social space. The project is the first phase of RecWell’s Outdoor Master Plan to meet rising student demand for racket and paddle sports.
Purdue Recreation & Wellness has opened the Pickett‑Chaney Pickleball and Tennis Complex on the West Lafayette campus. The outdoor facility expanded and resurfaced 18 pickleball courts—each fenced—with three built to championship dimensions, and added two individually fenced tennis courts. The site also includes an outdoor social area intended for spectating, studying and informal gatherings; RecWell continues to offer indoor pickleball at the Multipurpose Activity Court in the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center.
The complex is named for donor families Martin and Janice Pickett and Jean Anne “Jeannie” and James Chaney, whose long‑term support helped make the project possible. Purdue officials described the facility as a response to growing participation during open recreation and rising membership in the Purdue Pickleball Club and intramural programs. University leaders framed the work as phase one of a broader Outdoor Master Plan to expand and modernize campus outdoor recreation.
