IRS launches mobile app to answer tax questions; WISH-TV says it offers another option for taxpayers
WISH-TV reports the IRS has launched a mobile app to help users quickly get answers to tax questions and view letters or notices. The agency says the app adds a 24/7 option but is not intended to replace phone or in-person help.

WISH-TV reports the IRS launched a new mobile app available from the Google and Apple app stores and the IRS website. The agency says the goal is to help users quickly get answers to tax-related questions and to let taxpayers securely sign in to view letters and notices. IRS spokesperson Stacy Engle said the app gives taxpayers another option to view tax information “two in the morning.”
The IRS told WISH-TV the app is not trying to replace phone calls or in-person conversations. The agency cautioned taxpayers to avoid clicking unsolicited links, said it generally will not text or email taxpayers, and noted a possible exception: you may receive an email to verify your identity when setting up an account. A Taxpayer Advocate report cited by WISH-TV says low-income taxpayers, older individuals, rural residents and those with limited English proficiency rely disproportionately on telephone assistance and report lengthy wait times.
