Colts preview Week 5 at Steelers: Pittman out, wet-weather prep and unpredictability highlighted

The Indianapolis Colts, in a team-published preview on 2026-10-09, said Michael Pittman Jr. will not play in their Week 5 game in Pittsburgh after aggravating a foot injury in practice. The club spent the week preparing for wet conditions, running wet-ball drills to emphasize ball security; head coach Shane Steichen said the last two weeks “haven't been what we wanted to be” and that “ball security has got to be at a premium against these guys.” The Colts enter the matchup with a minus-four turnover margin and said their last two wins were over the Houston Texans and Washington Commanders.

The Colts’ preview noted weather uncertainty tied to remnants of Hurricane Isaias projected over northeast Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Sunday, warning rain bands could lash Acrisure Stadium during the game. Pittsburgh enters Week 5 at 2-2 with eight takeaways (the second-highest total in the NFL) and a new head coach, Mike McCarthy — the Colts’ first Pittsburgh game without Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher or Mike Tomlin as the opposing coach. The preview concluded that whichever team handles the unpredictability better will emerge 3-2.
