Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards youth grants to 31 Indiana groups, reaching 16,500 people
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded youth literacy grants to 31 organizations across Indiana as part of more than $4.1 million distributed nationwide. Indiana awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are intended for books, technology, equipment and professional development.
The foundation said the Indiana grants will reach more than 16,500 people and can be used for classroom or library books, technology, equipment and educator professional development. The statewide awards are part of a nationwide distribution totaling over $4.1 million and individual Indiana grants range from $1,000 to $5,000.
Among the larger $5,000 recipients mentioned were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington, Nicholson Elementary School in Crawfordsville, Northeast School Corporation in Farmersburg, Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington County, Youth Link Southern Indiana in Jeffersonville, Hanna Community Center in Lafayette and Clinton Central Education Foundation in Michigantown. Smaller awards included $1,000 to Charlestown Elementary, $2,000 to Tyson Library Association in Versailles, $2,500 to Jennings County High School and $2,652 to Tri Junior Senior High School in Straughn. The foundation also noted its Yellow Glasses Project has raised more than $9 million since 2020.
