Airbnb bars hosts from requiring guests to strip beds or wash dishes at checkout; rule takes effect Nov. 20

Airbnb will prohibit hosts from requiring guests to strip beds, wash and put away dishes, start laundry or remove trash at checkout, TechCrunch reported the company announced on 2026-10-21. The guideline applies to reservations made on or after 2026-11-20, the article says.

TechCrunch reported Airbnb outlined narrow exceptions that would still allow hosts to request certain actions in specific circumstances — for example, asking guests to conserve water during droughts or to use bear‑proof trash containers where wildlife poses a risk — but said routine chores should not be mandated of guests at checkout, per the report and the company’s guidance summarized there. \n\n
