United Way of Central Indiana to offer statewide group health plan for human-services nonprofits pending state approval
United Way of Central Indiana announced on Sept. 10, 2026 it will launch the Indiana UNITY Health Alliance, a MEWA designed to let human services nonprofits and local United Ways pool benefits; the plan was proposed to take effect Jan. 1, 2027 pending Indiana Department of Insurance approval.
On Sept. 10, 2026 United Way of Central Indiana said it is launching Indiana UNITY Health Alliance, a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) open to human services nonprofits and all local United Ways across Indiana. The announcement said more than 40 organizations and more than 1,000 employees have expressed interest, and United Way will manage day-to-day operations.
The plan was described as including medical, dental, vision and life coverage, short- and long-term disability, an employee assistance program, HSA/FSA options and telehealth. United Way said a Board of Trustees elected by participating organizations will govern the MEWA. Information sessions were scheduled for 2-3 p.m. on Sept. 17 and 24 and Oct. 1, proposed rates and open enrollment meetings were planned for October, and the plan was proposed to begin Jan. 1, 2027. United Way’s first-year coverage goal is at least 500 employees.
