IU Health sets late-2027 target as downtown hospital takes shape

Construction on IU Health’s downtown Indianapolis medical center is entering its final phase, according to an Oct. 26 WFYI tour of the site. The health system calls the new facility Indiana University Health Medical Center and says it expects a late-2027 opening; WFYI reports officials gave December 2027 as the target. The campus along 16th Street and Capitol Avenue will combine services now provided at Methodist and University hospitals. WFYI reports the $4.74 billion project will have 860 inpatient beds, 50 operating rooms and 110 emergency care spaces. The consolidation will reshape a major downtown health care workplace and patient destination. IU Health’s Oct. 23 update also shows the planned hospital’s interior. The opening remains a target; existing services have not yet moved.
