Two serious bicycle crashes occurred hours apart Monday morning in Indianapolis. At about 3:05 a.m., a Dodge Ram struck an e-bike at Washington Street and Capitol Avenue; the rider was identified by the Marion County Coroner as 44-year-old Brandon Eugene Rogers Sr., who died at the scene. Police said the pickup driver remained and cooperated; investigators said it was unknown if alcohol was a factor and the cause remains under investigation.
Around 5:50 a.m., a separate crash at Indiana Avenue and Waterway Boulevard on the near northwest side left a bicyclist critically injured after being struck by a passenger vehicle; that driver also stayed at the scene. Cyclists pointed to nearby construction fencing and black tarping that can create blind spots, and Anthony Cherolis, executive director of Central Indiana Cycling and a member of the city’s Fatal Crash Review Team, urged more uniformly applied construction best practices and careful driving in work zones.
