Indy’s $2M River Road Repair Contract Could Affect City Spending, North‑side Access

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works has engaged F.A. Wilhelm Construction to reconstruct a section of River Road on the city’s north side that was washed out by flooding in August 2026. The city says the fast‑tracked contract is worth at least $2 million. Officials hope the rebuild will be complete by the end of 2026 but acknowledge the timeline and final cost could extend and rise beyond current estimates.

The repair scope covers rebuilding the embankment along Crystal Lake and reducing the lake level by roughly seven feet, a move the city says could affect boating and private docks owned by homeowners. DPW Deputy Director of Policy and Planning Daniel Stevenson told FOX 59 crews first must pump water from the crater to return the lake to normal pool level so engineers can assess the full extent of damage and determine needed repairs.
