Staff moved about 90,000 cubic feet of boxes into four floors of storage; the facility also includes offices, a rooftop terrace and a ground-floor exhibit featuring Indiana’s 1816 and 1851 constitutions.
Lawmakers authorized the project in the 2021 budget and the State Budget Committee approved work in June 2023 with a $102 million budget. Agency leaders said the building consolidates staff who had been spread across four locations, adds capacity for roughly 30,000–40,000 additional cubic feet of records, and improves climate control and preservation. The archives said it will host a public symposium on the Indiana Constitution on Nov. 5, 2026, with a keynote by Indiana Chief Justice Loretta Rush.
