Downtown Indy Inc. said a mix of local, regional and national events would draw large crowds downtown for the weekend covered in the report, with organizers citing attractions including the Indianapolis Zoo’s Zoo Boo, an international violin competition at Hilbert Circle Theatre, an Indy Eleven match, an Indianapolis Colts game, WWE-related programming, Swing at Victory Field and the 42nd Circle City Classic. The organization said it expects tens of thousands of visitors and highlighted partnerships such as a 2024 agreement with WWE and Indiana Sports Corp to bring WWE’s largest stadium events to Indianapolis.

Local businesses reported measurable sales gains when events bring visitors downtown. Brent Drescher, general manager of District Tap — located near Meridian and Georgia streets and within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium and Gainbridge Fieldhouse — told WISH-TV that events produce a notable uptick in revenue “by several thousand.” Indiana Sports Corp told the station the WWE stadium events (WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Royal Rumble) have a combined projected economic impact of more than $300 million, per that organization.

BusinessIndy examines this development and its implications for Indiana businesses and communities using the linked sources.
