A Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be staged at the Pacers Athletic Center, 200 E. 186th St. in Westfield, on Oct. 3-4, with games scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Sponsored by Republic Airways, the event invites players age 8 and older to form four-player teams and compete across all skill levels. The center’s eight indoor courts will host matches throughout the weekend, and teams can register via the Gus Macker Indianapolis site.

Organizers say the tournament supports cancer research at the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the event also relies on volunteers for setup, scorekeeping and other operations. The IU Simon center is identified in the event material as Indiana’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and is noted to have more than 350 cancer investigators working on research. More information on volunteering is offered through the cancer center’s channels.
