Zionsville officials began construction Aug. 25 on a new fire station on farmland purchased from the Everett family at 3440 E. 550 S. Fire Chief James VanGorder said the city’s last new station was built 14 years ago; the project follows the decision to join the former Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department with Zionsville.
Officials described the site as strategic for serving nearby large warehouses and residents near East 500 South and South Main Street. The front two acres will house the station and the rear will be used for training facilities — including a driving track — available to both the fire department and Zionsville Police Department. Companies working on the project include Hagerman Construction, GM Development and Bell Architecture; the station is scheduled to be completed in July 2027.
