Hamilton County advances Hazel Dell Parkway bridge replacement; approves $1.179M CDBG award and recovery contract
At a Sept. 28 Hamilton County Commissioners meeting, officials reviewed bids for preliminary engineering and design of a total replacement for the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge (collapsed Aug. 15) and approved a 2026 Community Development Block Grant award of $1,179,216 and a federal recovery contract with Tidal Basin Group.

Commissioners held a bid opening Sept. 28 for preliminary engineering and design services to replace the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge over Blue Woods Creek after its Aug. 15 collapse during historic flooding. Bids came from DLZ, United Consulting Engineering Inc. and USI Consultants, Inc.; the county highway department is set to review and award the contract at its Oct. 8 meeting.
The board also approved the 2026 Community Development Block Grant federal award agreement totaling $1,179,216; county staff said Year 3 priorities of the five-year CDBG plan include expanding and sustaining affordable housing development. Commissioners adopted a federal funding contract with Tidal Basin Group to help the emergency operations department recoup federal flood-related funds; that contract is not to exceed $10,000. The next commissioners meeting is at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Hamilton County Judicial Center.
