Flood damage could keep Carmel’s Hazel Landing closed up to 2 years, CCPR says
Current Publishing reports Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation says Hazel Landing Park — the Carmel site hit hardest by the mid‑August 2026 flood — remains closed with major trail, parking and bridge damage; officials say Blue Woods Creek will likely need rerouting and reopening could take up to two years.

Current Publishing reports Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation Director Michael Klitzing said Hazel Landing Park — the Carmel site hit hardest by the mid‑August 2026 flood — remains closed. Two trail sections collapsed, parking edges crumbled and the Bur Oak Pedestrian Bridge (opened less than a year earlier) is closed; Klitzing said reopening could take up to two years.
Klitzing said Blue Woods Creek likely must be rerouted and its new path determined before planning to reopen; heavy equipment will travel through the park for bridge and creek repairs. Hamilton County is working to expedite replacing the destroyed Hazel Dell Parkway bridge, and CCPR expects some FEMA funding and is pursuing possible Lilly Endowment grant support.
