Lebanon Utilities eyes Prairie Creek as discharge site for LEAP district treated water
Lebanon Utilities is studying Prairie Creek as an alternative to discharging treated LEAP district water into Eagle Creek, WISH-TV reported. The utility commissioned a draft engineering report and Citizens Energy plans to provide up to 25 million gallons per day to Lebanon by 2031.

Lebanon Utilities is considering Prairie Creek instead of Eagle Creek as the discharge location for treated water from the LEAP (Lebanon Enterprise and Advancement Park) district, WISH-TV reported. At a Lebanon Utilities Service Board meeting on Sept. 23, Wastewater Operations Manager Ryan Ottinger said the utility commissioned the Boone County Surveyor’s Office to study how discharges would affect Prairie Creek, and a draft Christopher B. Burke Engineering LLC report modeled roughly 1.9 inches of additional water in the creek.
If Prairie Creek is chosen, Lebanon Utilities would build a new treatment plant to serve LEAP tenants and release the treated water into Prairie Creek, WISH-TV said. Citizens Energy Group told WISH-TV it will supply up to 25 million gallons per day to Lebanon by 2031 and said discharging that volume to Prairie Creek would not impair regional water resources, while conservationists warned of risks to fish and birds in Eagle Creek Reservoir. Lebanon Utilities expects it could take several months to finalize the engineering report and must pick a discharge site before building the plant as soon as 2028.
