Indianapolis-based Damar Services to pay $65,000 and change hiring policies in EEOC settlement

Damar Services reached a settlement with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that requires a $65,000 payment and additional relief, according to an EEOC news release. The EEOC had sued Damar in March, alleging the provider used qualification standards and hiring practices that screened out applicants with hearing and vision disabilities and made prohibited disability-related inquiries.

Under the agreement Damar must remove vision- and hearing-related requirements from job postings; hire a vocational rehabilitation specialist to review facilities, policies and qualification standards; provide staff training; post an employee notice about disability discrimination; and submit reports to the EEOC. The organization serves people across the region and has offices in central Indiana, including the Geist area.
