Noblesville Uptown Cafe's service policy and public image at issue after manager named in protective-order petition

A dispute at Uptown Cafe in downtown Noblesville on Aug. 22 began when a diner asked whether the restaurant was operated by Muslims, referring to a 15-year-old employee wearing a hijab. Manager Alex Bevins told the customer that question was inappropriate and said the customer could no longer dine at the cafe. The customer posted a public video about the interaction that later spread across social platforms; Bevins also posted a message thanking supporters.

On Aug. 28 a deputy delivered a petition seeking a protective order that, according to the filing, says the customer received hundreds of negative comments after posting the video and describes some as threatening. The petitioner alleges Bevins made harassing comments and says she fears for her safety; Bevins disputes those claims and told Current she has worked at the cafe more than five years without prior incidents. Current has reached out to the petitioner for comment.
