Chip Ganassi Racing signed Christian Lundgaard to a multiyear contract to drive the No. 9 PNC Bank Honda beginning in 2027. PNC Bank will continue as the car’s primary sponsor; Lundgaard finished third in the 2026 INDYCAR standings and won races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and Road America.

Gordon Johncock, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and the 1976 USAC national champion, died Sept. 28, 2026, at his Michigan home, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway said. Johncock won the 500 in 1973 and 1982 and was inducted into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Hall of Fame in 1997.
Scott McLaughlin started from pole and led 87 of 95 laps to win the Mission Foods Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, snapping a 35-race winless streak that dated to the 2024 Milwaukee Mile 250 Race 2 and earning his eighth career NTT IndyCar Series victory.
Rahal finished the 2026 NTT INDYCAR Series campaign with three top-three finishes, six results in the 20s and 16th in the standings. Leon Duray “Jigger” Sirois died Sept. 23, 2026, at age 91, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway reported Sept. 24, 2026. Sirois became part of Indianapolis 500 lore after a near-pole qualifying run on May 17, 1969, and attempted to qualify for the race every year from 1969–75 without making a start.
