Brownsburg schools plan $3.8M cuts; transportation proposals could cover more than half
Brownsburg Community School Corp. plans $3.8 million in ongoing budget cuts for the 2027-28 school year as part of $7.9 million in reductions over three years. Brownsburg officials told the school board on Aug. 10 that the district has already met its $3 million reduction target for 2026-27 and is planning $7.9 million in cuts across 2026-27 through 2028-29: $3 million in 2026-27, $3.8 million in 2027-28 and $1.1 million in 2028-29. Transportation proposals under consideration could account for more than half of the $3.8 million planned for 2027-28. Specific ideas include three-tier bus routing (estimated savings about $1.3 million), expanding parent-responsibility zones (saving more than $700,000), eliminating nonmandatory preschool transportation, higher fees for extracurricular and field-trip transportation, and changing ALPHA start times.
