Hamilton County moves toward Hazel Dell Parkway bridge replacement; approves $1,179,216 CDBG award

Hamilton County commissioners held a Sept. 28 bid opening for preliminary engineering and design services to replace the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge over Blue Woods Creek after the structure collapsed Aug. 15 during historic flooding. Bids came from DLZ, United Consulting Engineering Inc. and USI Consultants, Inc.; the county highway department is scheduled to review and award the engineering contract at its Oct. 8 meeting.
At that same Sept. 28 meeting the board approved the 2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) federal award agreement totaling $1,179,216, noting Year 3 priorities that include expanding and sustaining affordable housing development. Commissioners also adopted a contract with Tidal Basin Group, not to exceed $10,000, to help the emergency operations department pursue federal flood-recovery reimbursement. The next commissioners meeting is set for 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Hamilton County Judicial Center.
