Danville Community School Corporation announced that Superintendent Dr. Tracey Shafer will retire in June 2027, ending a tenure that began in January 2015. The district credited his leadership with a period of transformation, citing student and staff growth, stronger safety practices and expanded community engagement. The announcement says he guided implementation of DCSC’s Master Campus Plan, which the district describes as now nearing completion.

The DCSC Board of School Trustees will select the district’s next superintendent before Dr. Shafer’s June retirement, the statement said. Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Morgan Walker and Chief Financial Officer Corey Herbert offered endorsements of Shafer’s emphasis on instruction, facilities planning and positioning the district for future needs. The district invited the community to join celebrations marking his years of service.
