Hendricks County schools awarded more than $644,000 in state secured-school safety grants

Nine Hendricks County-area schools and school corporations were listed as recipients of more than $644,000 in state Secured School Safety Grant Program funding. State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon) was quoted saying the Indiana Department of Homeland Security awarded more than $26 million to nearly 500 schools and school corporations statewide in that funding cycle. State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) and State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) were cited describing the grant program as a source for security equipment, technology, school resource officers, site vulnerability assessments and bullying prevention programs. State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) said Indiana has invested more than $240 million in school safety since the program began in 2013.
